Geek Party

August 10th, 2011

This year we have a great community bar at the BarCamp venue so so have decided to open it up to all in the evening. If you want to join us for a drink or two, or three, or four then come along in the evening.

Following the ethos of and supported by The Geekest Drink we will be sticking with the formatbinomo demo login of being a bunch of geeks around a table with beer, but with a few geeky games around the building, and visiting geeks who you would not normally get to meet.

We are officially starting at 7:30, but come whenever you like.

We have a silver screen

August 2nd, 2011

Did I mention that one of the benefits of being in a cinema is that we have a very large screen and flashy digital projector allowing us to show from a DVD or laptop? In the evening we will probably throw up a few films from sing-alongs to documentaries. If you have something you would like to watch on the big screen then let us know ASAP and we will try and get permission to show it.

Tickets are live

BarCampNorthEast4 date confirmed 13th/14th August

June 27th, 2011

Good news. Tonight we have had confirmation that we can hold BarCampNorthEast4 on the 13th and 14th of August at the Star and Shadow Cinema, Newcastle. More details to come soon.

BarCampNorthEast4 in August?

May 28th, 2011

We are provisionally looking in to hold BarCampNorthEast4 on either the 13th/14th or the 20th/21st or August at the Star and Shadow Cinema. This is is a different part of the same building the original BarCampNorthEast was held in in 2008. Lots of people have offered help in the past so if you can help please let us know. We are especially in need of people to ask for and follow up sponsorship this year.

BarCampNorthEast3 done and dusted

March 26th, 2010

BarCampNorthEast3 is now over and we have just about recovered. A big thank you for coming and making the event the success that it was, and a special thank you to our hosts and sponsors. We could not have done this without the support of the Yahoo! developer network, the Centre for Life, Newcastle science festival, Microsoft and Super Mondays.

I must also take a few moments to thank the many people who contributed by publicising the events. We relied almost entirely on word of month this year and achieved a record attendance of over 80%. There were 44 attendees in total, 21 staying over night, and 29 in on Sunday. If you want to keep in contact with fellow attendees please add your details to the wiki. We have already had lots of positive feedback but please don’t forget to blog about the experience and tell others about how much you enjoyed BarCamp.

Most importantly a big thank you for attending and making the event what it was. Whatever we do to make a BarCamp happen it is the people who come along, give presentations, run session, and generally help out that make it a real success.

There is already talk about BarCampNorthEast4 and I (Alistair) look forward to it. Although it is not hard to organise a BarCamp it is time consuming and realistically it is now too big for one person to organise in their spare time. Because of this I am taking a step back and asking for others who can spare a few hours a week to step forward and at least in part make BarCampNorthEast4 a reality. If you think you can help then please get in touch.

Thank you all once again.

BarCampNorthEast3 event sponsors announced.

March 18th, 2010

We could not run a BarCamp without the kind supportwww.binomo-co.in/demo.html of out sponsors and we are all very grateful. The main event sponsors for BarCampNorthEast3 are the Yahoo! Developer Network, and the Centre for Life in tandem with the Newcastle Science Festival 2010. I urge you to take a look at our sponsors page to find out about them. Ian from Yahoo! and Ian for the Centre for Life will be joining us this weekend so please pass on your thanks and ask any questions you may have. Other Ian’s may also be present. :-)

Getting to BarCampNorthEast3

March 16th, 2010

With less than a week to go we are being asked about direction and parking. As promised here is a quick guide. Remember that it is the Life Lab entrance you are heading to that is next to the conference centre entrance. We also have a map online, and if you get lost then you can call us on 07767 655 359.

By Train: The easiest way to get to BarCamp is by train from Newcastle station. Turn left when exiting the station and the big and colourful Centre for Life will be in front of you. Turn left at the building before going under the arch and logo, and go to the Life Lab entrance next to the conference centre entrance.

By Metro: Take the Metro to Central Station and go up the escalators to the station concourse. Follow the train instructions from there. (Note a bus replacement service is operating between Chillingham Road to St James on Sunday because of engineering work).

By Coach: The back entrance of the National Express coach station is opposite the Centre for Life. Leave the station through the lane to the east and you will see the venue. The Life Lab entrance is the other side of the centre so you will need to walk around the outside and not enter the square.

By Bus: There are many buses that stop at or around the station. There are two travel planners that should help you find your best bus to the station. Follow the train instructions from there.

By Car: The venue and the station have secure parking but both are expensive. We are recommending parking at Blandford Square (in front of the discovery museum) instead that will cost around £5 for the weekend. You could also consider parking out of the centre and taking the Metro to the venue.

Note that if you are dropping off equipmenthttp://www.binomo-co.in/demo there is a service road you can gain access from Forth St. You can drop off everything and then continue directly to Blandford Square from there.

Newcastle Science Festival 2010

March 11th, 2010

Tomorrow is that start of the Newcastle Science Festival 2010 that we are linking up with this year. There are many great events on over the following week and 10 days that are fully documented on the Science Festival web site. We are especially looking forward to the UK Maker Faire this coming weekend at the Centre for Life.

Also we are having a gathering at Datarama that this month at the Star and Shadow on Friday. This is an AV Festival and Science Festival special of the open show and tell, and is always interesting. There is a cheep bar and a lot of interesting people coming including many for out of town, so please come along.

Tickets going fast

March 4th, 2010

We are rather pleased that tickets have been going well and are down to our last 25 before properly advertising the event. We will see if we can issue more tickets, but if you want to come I suggest you grab your ticket now from http://northeast.barcamp.org.uk/get-a-ticket/ .

Also if you can think of someone who would enjoy BarCamp then why not send them an email and suggest they come along. The more new faces the better BarCamp is.

If you find that you can not attend then please let us know so we can reissue the place to someone else.
